Chimay - Blue Label
Chimay brewery says is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavor, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, re-fermented in the bottle, is not pasteurized.. I had this brew with an old friend in Jacksonville, FL. back in June of 2009. We sampled several big beers this evening all of which are on the blog site.

Victory - Saison du BUFF
This beer is collaboration between Dogfish Head, Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA), and Victory Brewing Company (Downington, PA). The idea for this beer germinated way back in 2003 when the three guys (Sam from Dogfish, Greg from Stone and Bill from Victory) formed the BUFF alliance (Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor) - a noble endeavor with the goal to highlight the passion and camaraderie of the American craft brew movement. So, BUFF didn't really do anything (beyond talk a lot of talk) until 2010 when the three brewers finally got together to jointly brew at beer at the Stone Brewery. Saison du BUFF will first be brewed at Stone and then replicated at each of the other two breweries - same recipe, same ingredients, three different breweries throughout 2010.

Dogfish Head - Festina Peche
A refreshing neo-BerlinerWeisse fermented with honest-to-goodness peaches to (get this!) 4.5% abv! Because extreme beers don't have to be extremely boozy! Available in 4-pack and draft during the sweaty months.
Sadly, there are only a few breweries left in Berlin still brewing the BerlinerWeissestyle which is characterized by its intense tartness (some say sour). There were once over 70 breweries in Berlin alone making this beer! In addition to fermentation with an ale yeast, Berliner Weisse is traditionally fermented with lactic cultures to produce its acidic or green apple-like character. It is delicately hopped with a pale straw color and served as an aperitif or summertime quencher. To soften the intense sourness, Berliner Weisse is traditionally served with a dash of essence of woodruff or raspberry syrup.
In the Festina Peche since the natural peach sugars are eaten by the yeast, the fruit complexity is woven into both the aroma and the taste of the beer so there is no need to doctor it with woodruff or raspberry syrup - open and enjoy!

Dogfish Head - Wrath Of Pecant
Wrath of Pecant is a collaboration between Dogfish and the Alstrom Brothers of Beer Advocate celebrating the 2010 Extreme Beer Fest. Wrath of Pecant became a 6% abv brownish ale brewed with pecan-wood smoked malt, plantains, and carob. It is complex yet quaffable; maltiness nuttiness and subtle earthy notes prevail. The beer was first tapped at the 2010 Extreme Beer Fest in Boston in February. The bottles (750ml) were released from the Milton brewery for The Weekend Of Compelling Ales & Whatnot in March of 2010. They are now available for sale from the brewery (and very soon at the brewpub!). There are no plans to distribute this beer outside the state of Delaware. I picked up a bottle at the Milton brewery back in August 2010. Sadly I only bought one but enjoyed it with several friends at an Oktoberfest party at the end September 2010.

Brewed with 17 lbs. of yams per barrel (in other words, a lot of yams!), this autumn seasonal is a different take on the “pumpkin” beer style. Taste - Malty and spicy and sweet.. For the maple, molasses, yams that are advertised, I did not get them but that's just me. Others have noticed.
Mouth Feel - Well carbonation and kinda syrupy. Goes down easy. Very smooth.

Sierra Nevada - 30th Anniversary Ale (Jack and Ken's) Black Barleywine Ale
Jack McAuliffe was the first American "micro" brewer. His tiny New Albion Brewery in Sonoma, California inspired countless dreamers to start small-scale breweries of their own. Jack agreed to guest brew this very special ale in honor of SN's 30th anniversary. This Black Barleywine Ale is a nod to the legendary ales New Albion served at their legendary summer solstice parties. Rich with bittersweet and roasted malt flavors, balanced with whole-cone American hops, this robust ale should age gracefully for years.
The ABV is 10.2 and the IBU rating is ??
Style -Black Barleywine (American Barleywine)
Glass to use- Pint Glass or Snifter
Delivery 750ml Bottle
Can be cellared for long periods, under the proper conditions.
The Pour - Pours very dark almost black. Has a big cream head with great retention and lacing throughout.
Aroma - Hoppy and Malty! The hops stay constant through the session. Aroma of an Imperial Stout, more chocolate than coffee. As it warms up to room temperature the alcohol starts to come through in the nose.
Taste - Upfront is a pleasant sweet taste, then oak and caramel, finishes nicely with bitterness of the hops like a bitter chocolate, and a touch of spice.
Mouth Feel - Well carbonation and kinda syrupy. Goes down easy.
Drinkable - Not bad, but I would not call in a barleywine, closer to an Imperial Stout. Decent amount of stuff going on here to keep it interesting. I purchased two bottles so I can age one for a year or two.

Russian River - Temptation
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle. I purchase three bottles from my craft beer outlet for $40. I had one the day a purchase them the other two will be aged for a year or more.

Victory - Helios
The radiant energy of the sun gives life to all that we enjoy. Flowing field of barley for malting, surging vines of ripening hops and even pure, clean water owe their vitality to the sun. Just as we do. So in crafting this unique, hazy orange-hued ale, we poured in nature’s great gifts of German malts and European hops to feed the dynamic yeast that we imported from Belgium. Here in the quiet tanks of Victory our yeast brought vitality to this Belgian style farmhouse ale. That energy has created impressions that range from lemon peel to black pepper, though such spices are not added. Great with a wide array of foods, count on the bright soul of Helios Ale to bring life to all of your meals!

The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Its very original packing, which resembles cologne ceramics, and the colorful label contribute to its success. In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as "best beer in the world". A gold medal during the "world beer championships" in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

Fegley's - Devious Imperial Pumpkin
Who makes this beer? Its listed as Fegley's which is bottled by Allentown Brew Works who is owned by Bethlehem Brew Works. Will the real brewery please stand up! All kidding aside...........
Update on 9/10/2012 with a 12 oz bottle
Amber hued Imperial Pumpkin Ale brewed with real pumpkin and pale, Munich, and caramel malts.
Ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and allspice are flawlessly combined with the subtle taste of pumpkin for the most deviously enticing Autumn brew.
Imperial Pumpkin Ale – A fall seasonal that ups the abv to 9% from a standard Pumpkin Ale. Imperial Pumpkin Ales are still typically mild, with a malty backbone that is balanced by the additional alcohol. The spice takes a lead, but is not overwhelming to the natural pumpkin that’s used in the brew.

This beer pair well with chicken, turkey and pork. And pumpkin pie.
This beer gets a Duper rating of A-.

Dog Fish Head - Burton Baton
This is a blended beer that DFH has been brewing for the past several years and it's recently been gaining in popularity. For Burton Baton DFH brews two 'threads' or batches of beer: an English-style Old Ale and an Imperial IPA. After fementating the separate beers in stainless tanks, the two are transferred and blended together in a large oak tank. Burton Baton sits on the wood for about a month. When enjoying the Burton Baton, you'll find an awesome blend of the citrus notes from Northwestern hops melding with woody, vanilla notes from the oak. The wood also tends to mellow the 10% of the beer - so tread cautiously! Burton Baton is brewed and released three times per year.
.
The ABV is 10.0 and the IBU rating is 70
Style - Imperial/Double IPA
Glass to use- Snifter, Tulip, Oversized Wine Glass

Can be cellared for long periods, under the proper conditions.
The Pour - Orange in color and a thick white head which last through out the drink.

Unibroue - Maudite
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect as an aperitif and after-dinner drink. Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute. La Fin Du Monte use to be my favorite from Unibourne but Maudite has taken that title.
The ABV is 8.0 and the IBU rating is 22
Style - Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Glass to use- Snifter, Tulip, Goblet or Oversized Wine Glass
Delivery 12oz Bottle
Can be cellared for long periods, under the proper condition.
The Pour - Mahogany in color with a nice thick head.
Aroma - A very distinct smell including hints fruit and spice.
Taste - Malty, vanilla, caramel and hint of orange.
Mouth Feel - Carbonation is a little high for this style, very smooth, full bodied beer.
Drinkable - Like the other brews from Unibroue this has a distinctive and complex taste due to it's unique yeast. Goes down very nice, I need to age a few for a year or two. Goes good with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes. And of course cheese.
This beer gets a Duper rating of A.
